Rotary KidsOut is an innovative initiative started by Rotary International to give a fun-filled day to children who may not otherwise have access to such experiences. This day has become an annual tradition celebrated by Rotary clubs worldwide, with each club organizing their unique events and surprises for kids in their local communities.
The goal of National Rotary KidsOut Day is to give children a break from their usual routine and create unforgettable memories. From exciting trips to theme parks to hands-on workshops and fun-filled picnics, the day is filled with laughter and joy.
Rotary clubs partner with schools, youth organizations, and other local initiatives to identify children who would benefit most from a day of fun and adventure. By collaborating with these organizations, Rotary KidsOut ensures that kids who might not have access to such experiences due to various challenges get the chance to enjoy an extraordinary day.
Volunteers play a crucial role on National Rotary KidsOut Day. They come with open hearts and a willingness to make a difference. These incredible individuals bring their talent, energy, and passion to create an unforgettable experience for children. From face painting to magic shows, from sports activities to arts and crafts stations, volunteers ensure that every child has a day filled with laughter and happy memories.
Did you know that National Rotary KidsOut Day holds the Guinness World Record for the largest single outing of children? In 2011, over 28,000 children participated in various events across the UK, making it a day to remember for everyone involved!
In 1920, the Rotary Club of Birmingham in England was founded. The Rotary Club, an international service organization, aims to bring together business and professional leaders to provide community service and promote goodwill. Rotary Clubs quickly gained popularity and spread throughout the world.
In 1981, two members of the Rotary Club of Leighton Linslade in the United Kingdom, Mavis Clark and Cheryl Moore, founded an initiative called KidsOut. The goal of KidsOut was to provide days out and fun experiences for disadvantaged children, giving them a break from their often challenging daily lives. This initiative was embraced by Rotary Clubs across the country and grew rapidly.
In 1990, in order to further enhance and expand the KidsOut initiative, the name was officially changed to Rotary KidsOut. Rotary Clubs encouraged their members to actively participate in organizing day trips, outings, and special events for children facing difficulties such as poverty, illness, or living in abusive situations. Rotary KidsOut became a way for Rotarians to make a positive impact on the lives of these children.
In 1991, the first National Rotary KidsOut Day was launched. It became an annual event held on the second Wednesday of June, where Rotary Clubs across the United Kingdom unite to take disadvantaged children on special outings and joyful experiences. This day serves as a celebration of kindness, compassion, and the power of community.
